Overview

Smoovie is a no-code spatial content editor for clipping, editing, and publishing spatial videos across platforms, created during DreamXR Hackathon and later evolved into SpatialCut.

Winner, DreamXR Hackathon - Apps Track

Smoovie was built in San Francisco during DreamXR Hackathon with Talbert Herndon from The Luminosity Lab. The event was organized by Founders, Inc., Unity, and Meta, and the first version shipped in two days.

XYZ of the problem

  • X: Creators needed no-code tooling to edit spatial videos without learning complex platform-specific workflows.
  • Y: Existing pipelines were fragmented across devices and platforms, making end-to-end spatial publishing slow and inconsistent.
  • Z: The result was low iteration speed for immersive storytelling, especially for creators trying to ship quickly.

Smoovie addresses that gap as a spatial content editing platform for spatial videos, audio, effects, and volumes with cross-platform support. The experience is designed to feel as approachable as CapCut or Adobe Premiere Rush, while staying spatial-native.

Based on the Devpost submission, the workflow emphasizes no-code, template-led editing so creators can import footage from iPhone or Apple Vision Pro, trim and compose quickly, and publish to supported spatial platforms.

The app was built natively with Xcode 15 and Swift, and explored with Apple Vision Pro, Meta Quest SDK, and Unity PolySpatial workflows for immersive playback and effects.

The biggest challenge was limited ecosystem support for editing and publishing spatial video. The strongest accomplishment was shipping and validating a working spatial editing app in under two days.

The team is continuing to refine the product, onboarding beta testers, and preparing for App Store launch.

Next milestones include richer spatial effects, volume support from tools like Luma/Polycam, and AI-assisted conversion from 2D to spatial content.
